Have you ever wanted to drive a steam train?
Why not try our new taster sessions, which allow you to experience first-hand how amazing these locomotives really are!
Spend an hour on the footplate with our friendly crew, who will guide you through the workings of a steam locomotive, giving you the opportunity to try your hand at driving and firing!
After your taster session you will then be able to spend the rest of the day here, enjoying our 25-acre heritage site, with as many passenger train rides as you like! Your taster session includes entry for you and one guest, who can watch whilst your experience takes place and can then enjoy the rest of the day onsite with you.
With limited availability, pre-booking is essential.
Please note that by purchasing this experience, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:
Steam locomotives are hot and dirty. Please be aware that by participating in this activity you may get your clothes dirty or damaged. Please ensure you wear suitable full leg covering trousers and sturdy shoes/boots. The loco crew will ensure your experience is as safe as possible but there are many hot surfaces and a fire in a locomotive cab. These could, potentially, cause burns to clothes or skin. You get on the locomotive footplate and participate in this activity at your own risk.
You must be physically able to climb up onto the footplate (3 vertical steps) and also vacate the footplate quickly in case of an emergency. You must be able to fully understand and comprehend any instructions from the loco crew. You must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Minimum age of participant is 18 years old.
Taster sessions are on the understanding that persons travel at their own risk and the Quainton Railway Society Ltd cannot be held responsible for any damage or injury howsoever caused. It is understood that you will take any action that the Locomotive Driver asks you to, to ensure your safety. All participants are at the discretion of the Loco driver.
